Matching Warehouse Racking to Marion County Buildings

The building sets the limits before inventory does. Bulk logistics buildings at Florida Crossroads Commerce Park, south of CR 484, and the Class A rear-load warehouses in the airport parks off SW 60th Ave give you real height and wide column grids. Close-in buildings along N Magnolia Ave and NW 8th Ave are usually lower and tighter, so the same pallet count takes a different plan.

We start with clear height, column spacing, dock positions and forklift reach, then pick the rack type. Tall buildings with a reach-truck fleet can run narrow aisles and six or seven beam levels. A counterbalance fleet in an older building may max out at three or four levels with 12 ft aisles.

Which Storage Racks Fit Which Product

Many SKUs with a pallet or two each point to selective pallet rack. Several pallets of the same item favor pushback rack. Date-coded grocery and foodservice product that must rotate calls for pallet flow. Deep runs of a few SKUs in a cooler or freezer suit drive-in rack.

Lumber, pipe and fencing for the building-supply and farm-supply trade go on cantilever rack. Each-picking for e-commerce orders runs best on carton flow. Most buildings around Ocala end up using two or three of these together.

    Weather, Heat and Installation Planning

Most warehouses here are not air-conditioned. Crews start early in summer and plan heavy lifting before the afternoon thunderstorms roll in. Galvanized or protected finishes make sense in wash-down areas and humid rooms.

Hurricane season runs June through November. Distributors in the NW Ocala cluster near the I-75 / NW 49th Street interchange often stage extra product for post-storm restock across the state, so we plan surge positions into the layout.
